2012 Chrysler 300

What's New for 2012

Redesigned last year, the big 300 sedan marches into 2012 with a new, more powerful offering?the 470-hp SRT8? and an eight-speed transmission for V-6 models.

Chrysler and Dodge are releasing their new 8-speed transmission mated with
the Pentastar V6 engine. The 8-speed will be available in the 300 and
Charger with rear wheel drive first then later release in AWD. This above
combination yields a highway 4 MPG increase, up to 31 MPG over the current
6-speed and city MPG is raised to 19.

The 8-speed has a 98% efficiency rating which is lighter and more compact
than the 6-speed and more gears translate into smaller shift gaps and
smoother shifting. Road tests at Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan proved
extremely smooth and seamless. The lower gears improve low end acceleration
while higher gears improve MPG when cruising. (0-60 MPH is reached in 7.2
seconds and cruising at 70 MPH the tach is running only at 1400 RPM.) The
transmission is also being built in Indiana.

The last bastion of the full-size rear-drive (or AWD) American sedan, the 300 is comfortable, refined, and stylish.
